Osimhen

Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has openly acknowledged the huge financial commitment involved in signing Victor Osimhen, remarking that the striker’s salary alone could fund an entire team.

Buruk made the comments while reflecting on the financial implications of recruiting Osimhen and several other high-profile players, following Galatasaray’s 3–1 win over Istanbulspor in the Turkish Cup.

After an outstanding loan spell from Napoli, the Turkish champions moved decisively last summer to secure Osimhen on a permanent deal, despite strong interest from clubs in the Premier League and Saudi Arabia. Galatasaray triggered the striker’s €75 million release clause, bringing an end to his five-year stay in Naples.

Osimhen, a former African Footballer of the Year and FIFA U-17 World Cup winner in 2015, earns a guaranteed €15 million per year, alongside a €1 million annual loyalty bonus and €5 million per season in image rights. He signed a four-year contract, with the total cost of the deal estimated at around €159 million over its full duration.

Speaking on the club’s official channels, Buruk underlined the need for financial balance despite Galatasaray’s ambition.

“Galatasaray’s transfer fees and salaries have been going up since last year,” Buruk said. “With Osimhen’s transfer fee and salary, you could probably put together a full team. We need to take these things into account.”

He added that while key signings such as Singo, Uğurcan, Sané, and İlkay have strengthened the squad, budget discipline remains essential.

“With every team, there is a budget. Once you set it at the start of the season, you need to stick to it,” Buruk noted.

With a Turkish Super Lig clash against Rizespor on the horizon, Buruk opted to rest Osimhen during Wednesday’s cup tie, carefully managing the workload of his star striker.
