A violent clash among rival youth groups in the Sabon-Titi area of Tunga, Minna, Niger State, has left one person dead and several others in police custody, security sources confirmed on Saturday.

The unrest began on Friday around 8:00 p.m. when a group of youths armed with dangerous weapons were reportedly seen causing disturbances along David Mark Road. Security operatives were deployed to the area and succeeded in dispersing the group.

However, the situation escalated in the early hours of Saturday. At about 1:00 a.m., the same group allegedly engaged in a fierce confrontation among themselves, using machetes and daggers. Police operatives moved in and arrested 12 suspects, including Ibrahim Musa, Abbah Hussaini, Babangida Gambo, and Abubakar Bala. Several weapons were recovered during the operation.

The violence took a deadly turn later that morning. At about 8:30 a.m., a man identified as Bello Mohammed of Farm Centre, Tunga Minna, was discovered lying in a pool of blood. He was immediately rushed to General Hospital Minna, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased may have been among the suspected thugs involved in terrorizing residents in the area. Police authorities say further investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the clash and the culpability of the arrested suspects.
