Obi Hosts Kwankwaso, NDC Candidates at Obidient Headquarters in Abuja

The presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, on Monday hosted the party’s vice-presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and other candidates at the Obidient Headquarters in Abuja.

The meeting brought together the party’s gubernatorial and senatorial candidates, as well as other aspirants from various states across the country, in what Obi described as part of efforts to strengthen the NDC’s nationwide political structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Obi disclosed the development in a post on his official X handle on Tuesday, saying discussions at the meeting centred largely on strategies to expand and deepen the party’s reach, particularly in rural communities and the hinterlands.

According to the former Anambra State governor, the party is determined to take its message of national redemption to Nigerians across the country and build a political structure capable of delivering victory for the NDC.

He said he also reassured the candidates of his continued support in their respective states and constituencies, while reaffirming his commitment to working with them towards achieving the party’s objectives.

Obi said the NDC’s programme would focus on addressing poverty, reducing the number of out-of-school children, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, improving national security, promoting national unity and moving Nigeria from a consumption-driven economy to one based on production.

He stated, “Our commitment is to commence lifting vulnerable Nigerians out of poverty, reduce the number of out-of-school children, support small and medium-sized businesses, secure our nation, unite our people, and move Nigeria from consumption to production.”

The meeting between Obi and Kwankwaso comes as the NDC intensifies its mobilisation and organisational activities across the country, with the party seeking to consolidate its political base ahead of the 2027 elections.

Meanwhile, Obi had on Sunday attributed many of Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges to poor political leadership, insisting that the country itself was not inherently flawed.

Speaking at Koinonia Global, hosted by Apostle Joshua Selman, Obi argued that the quality of leadership remained one of the fundamental factors responsible for the country’s difficulties.

He appealed for prayers for politicians and the nation, saying leaders required divine guidance to effectively address Nigeria’s challenges.

“I believe that people like you are the ones keeping our country. The only thing I can ask all of you who are gathered here, because I know he’s praying for the country, is that you remember us, the politicians, in your prayers,” Obi said.
