Nvidia Restores PhysX Support for RTX 50-Series GPUs After Major Gamer Complaints

Nvidia has officially restored PhysX support for its new RTX 50-series graphics cards, months after the GPUs launched without compatibility for the feature. PhysX is Nvidia’s GPU-accelerated physics engine that powers realistic effects like smoke, fog, debris, and shattering glass in supported games.

When the RTX 50-series launched, many gamers were disappointed to learn that PhysX didn’t work at all. This was because the new GPUs dropped support for 32-bit CUDA components, a core part of how older PhysX titles were built. As a result, classic games such as Borderlands 2, Mirror’s Edge, and Batman: Arkham City were forced to run PhysX calculations on the CPU instead of the GPU. Some games even dropped below 60fps because of this limitation.

After weeks of feedback, Nvidia has now reversed course.

According to Nvidia, the company is releasing a new Game Ready driver (version 591.44) that brings “custom support” for the most-played PhysX-accelerated games. This update now restores full GPU-accelerated effects on RTX 50-series cards, matching the performance seen on older Nvidia GPUs.

Games That Now Support PhysX on RTX 50-Series GPUs

Here are the titles currently restored with GPU PhysX acceleration:

  • Alice: Madness Returns
  • Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
  • Batman: Arkham City
  • Batman: Arkham Origins
  • Borderlands 2
  • Mafia II
  • Metro 2033
  • Metro: Last Light
  • Mirror’s Edge

Nvidia also confirmed that Batman: Arkham Asylum will get PhysX support in early 2026. However, not all older PhysX games will make the list. Community tracking shows that more than 40 titles were affected when PhysX support was removed, and Nvidia has not committed to restoring all of them.

Still, this update is a major win for gamers who enjoy classic PhysX-heavy titles. Anyone with an RTX 50-series GPU can download the new driver from Nvidia’s website or through the Nvidia app to enable full PhysX acceleration.
