Title contenders Ikorodu City and Rivers United have a chance to move to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table on Monday when they play their Matchday 17 fixtures.

Ikorodu City will host Katsina United at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, while Rivers United welcome Wikki Tourists to the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.

League leaders Nasarawa United missed an opportunity to extend their lead on Sunday after settling for a draw against Plateau United at the New Jos Stadium. That result keeps Nasarawa United top with 31 points from 17 matches. Rivers United trail closely with 30 points from 15 games, while Ikorodu City sit on 28 points from 16 matches.

A win for Rivers United would take them to the summit, two points clear of Nasarawa United, while a draw would see them level on points with the leaders. Ikorodu City could also reclaim top spot if Rivers United fail to secure maximum points against Wikki Tourists.

Elsewhere in Matchday 17 action on Sunday, Niger Tornadoes recorded the biggest win with a dominant 3-0 victory over El Kanemi Warriors. Enyimba defeated Kwara United 3-1, Bayelsa United came from behind to beat defending champions Remo Stars 2-1, while Warri Wolves and Kano Pillars shared a goalless draw in Ozoro.

Shooting Stars edged Barau FC 1-0 away in Kano, and Abia Warriors also claimed a narrow 1-0 away win against Kun Khalifat.

With Nasarawa United, Rivers United, Ikorodu City and Abia Warriors occupying the top four spots and separated by just four points, the NPFL title race remains wide open. At the bottom of the table, El Kanemi Warriors, Kun Khalifat, Barau FC and Kano Pillars currently sit in the relegation zone.
