Rights activist Deji Adeyanju has declared support for striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to continue with its industrial action until all their demands are met.

He stated that if the nation's educational sector was working, no politicians would choose to send their kids to schools abroad or pay huge amount for private school in Nigeria

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday February 14, 2022 embarked on a strike due to what it described as failure on the part of the government to meet some of the lingering demands of the union.

The demands of the union include the provision of funds for the revitalisation of public universities; payment of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA)/Earned Allowances (EA); payment of salary shortfalls; an end to the proliferation of state universities, renegotiation of a 2009 agreement; adoption of University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) as a payment platform for university teachers and payment of non-remitted check-off dues.
