The Adamawa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has publicly distanced itself from Ambassador Umarana Suleiman (also referred to as Umar Suleiman Umarana or Dokaji), accusing him of insubordination and refusing to collaborate with the harmonized state executive committee in the ongoing Membership Mobilization, Revalidation, and Registration (MMRR) exercise.

In a strongly worded clarification, the party leadership described Umarana’s stance as a “gross insubordination” and a disservice to the party, emphasizing that there is no leadership vacuum in Adamawa ADC.

The statement comes amid renewed internal tensions, despite recent efforts to harmonize structures following prolonged disputes.

The disavowal was detailed in a press release signed by Hon. Chief Peter Hadley Dili (also spelled Chief Peter Hardley Dili or Chief Hadley Peter Dilli), who serves as Secretary of the MMRR State Committee.

The release outlined a comprehensive, multi-layered structure for the membership drive, which was inaugurated nationally by the ADC headquarters in Abuja on February 12, 2026.

According to the document, the State MMRR Steering Committee is chaired by Ambassador Umar Suleiman Dokaji Adamawa, with Chief Peter Hadley Dili as Secretary. This committee is responsible for policy direction, supervision, and liaison with the national headquarters.

Additional committees include: State Technical and Data Management Committee — tasked with handling registration materials, data collation, validation, and secure record-keeping; State Mobilization and Publicity Committee— focused on public sensitization, grassroots mobilization, and engagement with coalition partners; LGA MMRR Implementation Committees (across 21 Local Government Areas) — to supervise ward-level activities and submit reports; Ward MMRR Registration Committees (across 226 wards) — to conduct direct registration, revalidation, and maintain accurate records per party guidelines.

The party stressed that the exercise would proceed with “utmost transparency, inclusiveness, and strict adherence to constitutional provisions.” Both Umarana and Dili reportedly received 50,000 membership cards each from the national headquarters to support the drive.

However, the release expressed regret over Umarana’s reported position that his transition committee is not obligated to work with the recognized Adamawa ADC structure. Party leaders argue this contradicts the harmonization agreement and national directives requiring full alignment with the state executive led by Comrade Shehu K. Yohanna.

State Chairman Shehu K. Yohanna firmly asserted that the ADC remains a unified entity in Adamawa, with functional structures from state to ward levels since the party began contesting elections in the state in 2019.

He clarified that any transition committee had a limited 90-day mandate for mobilizing coalition partners, which has now expired.

Yohanna described Umarana’s refusal to recognize the harmonized executive as “strange” and lamented it as a major setback, while ruling out immediate disciplinary measures. He reiterated that the party’s doors remain open to members willing to operate within the recognized framework.

“We’re proceeding with the membership registration. ADC in Adamawa is united, strong, and focused. Our goal is to build a formidable opposition and position ourselves to form government,” Yohanna stated.

Hon. Bamanga Yahaya Nuhu (Alternate Chairman of the MMRR State Committee) pledged full support for the exercise in line with national directives and loyalty to the party’s leadership, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Nuhu emphasized that only ward chairmen are authorized to register members and sign cards, urging supporters to participate actively across all 21 LGAs and 226 wards.

The membership drive is positioned as a key step to consolidate the party ahead of future elections, including preparations for 2027. The state secretariat provided contact details, including State Chairman Comrade Shehu K. Yohanna (08037546584) and State Secretary Zubairu I. Mohammed (07066769071), along with the email adcadamawastate2027@gmail.com.

Attached official documents list detailed chairmen and secretaries for MMRR committees in all 21 LGAs, as well as the state MMRR committee members, underscoring the party’s push for grassroots expansion despite the internal disagreement.

The ADC in Adamawa has faced periodic leadership harmonization efforts, including a unified executive sworn in earlier in 2026 following prior reconciliations. The current mobilization is framed as a nationwide effort to strengthen the party’s base.
