NITDA Takes Full Control of NGEA Portal in Major Boost to Nigeria’s Digital Governance

By Tgnews Reporter

In a significant advancement for Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has formally assumed control of the Nigeria Government Enterprise Architecture (NGEA) infrastructure following a formal handover ceremony in Abuja.

The event, supported by a strategic partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), represents a key milestone under the country’s e-Government Masterplan 2.0 (Ne-GMP 2.0).

It shifts the NGEA from development to full operational management by NITDA, aiming to create a more integrated, efficient, and citizen-centric digital government ecosystem.

The NGEA framework provides a comprehensive blueprint for strategic IT investments across government institutions. It promotes interoperability, reduces duplication of systems, enhances risk management, and aligns digital initiatives with national priorities.

Once fully operationalised, it is expected to enable seamless data exchange between Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), leading to improved public service delivery and more effective governance.

Over the past two and a half years, Nigerian technical teams collaborated closely with Korean experts to develop the unified enterprise architecture, establish reference models, and conduct pilot implementations in key institutions, including the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and NITDA itself.

The NGEA infrastructure is hosted by Galaxy Backbone Limited, providing a secure and resilient platform for its operations. NITDA will now lead efforts to scale and sustain the system, working in close collaboration with stakeholders and under the strategic oversight of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE).

Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, has consistently emphasised the importance of such initiatives in building a resilient and inclusive digital economy.

The handover aligns with broader goals of the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, including greater transparency, efficiency, and the digitisation of government services.

KOICA’s ongoing support underscores the value of international partnerships in strengthening Nigeria’s digital foundations. The NGEA is viewed not merely as a technical platform but as a paradigm shift away from fragmented, siloed IT projects toward a coordinated, whole-of-government approach.

Officials have pledged continued engagement with MDAs to ensure widespread adoption, with expectations that the NGEA will drive smarter governance and deliver tangible benefits to citizens through more responsive and integrated digital services.

This development comes as Nigeria accelerates its push toward a fully digitised public sector, positioning the country to better leverage technology for economic growth, improved service delivery, and enhanced transparency in governance.
