NIMC Denies Allegations of NIN Data Falsification, Reaffirms Online-Only Modification Process

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has strongly refuted claims that some enrolment agents in Abuja are collecting payments to falsify dates of birth on National Identification Numbers (NINs).

The Commission emphasized its zero-tolerance policy for misconduct and clarified that all NIN data modifications are strictly conducted online, with no provision for physical alterations.

In a statement signed by Kayode Adegoke NIMC’s Head, Corporate Communications, while addressing a recent media report, NIMC clarified that modifications to NIN data, such as changes to dates of birth, can only be made through its self-service modification portal at selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng.

The Commission stressed that it does not engage agents for data modification and maintains a firm stance against extortion, falsification, or any unethical practices by its staff or licensed Front-End Partners.

NIMC urged NIN holders to follow the official guidelines and approved statutory processes for data modifications, which include specified fees.

To ensure accountability, the Commission encouraged the public to report any instances of extortion or misconduct through its official complaint channels: phone numbers (+234-9-134959433 and 08155015388) or email addresses actu@nimc.gov.ng and ieu@nimc.gov.ng.

Reassuring Nigerians of the security of the National Identity Database, NIMC reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and building public trust in Nigeria’s identity management system.

The Commission vowed to continue strengthening measures to safeguard the integrity of the NIN system.
