The PSC dismissed the petitions at its conclusion of the plenary meeting held at the Solomon Arase Conference Hall, during which it decided on 24 appeals and one pending disciplinary matter involving senior and junior officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Monday announced the dismissal of petitions and complaints against the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Bzigu Yakubu Kwazhi Dali, who was accused of falsifying his date of enlistment and other alleged irregularities in his service records.

The PSC dismissed the petitions at its conclusion of the plenary meeting held at the Solomon Arase Conference Hall, during which it decided on 24 appeals and one pending disciplinary matter involving senior and junior officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Commission made this known in a statement issued on Monday, where it noted that the petition and allegations were frivolous.

“The Commission dismissed the petitions/complaints against DIG Bzigu Yakubu Kwazhi Dali, on allegations of falsified date of enlistment and other irregularities in his record of service, insisting that the petition and allegations from anonymous concerned senior Officers from Adamawa State were frivolous,” the statement read.

The PSC said that the warning letter issued to the officer did not emanate from the Commission and was therefore “null and void.”

It further nullified the reversal of DIG Dali’s date of birth from April 10, 1967, to April 10, 1966, describing the change as irregular.

The Commission also reviewed the compulsory retirement of ACP Grace Obiageli Ejiofor following the tragic events of September 8, 2023, at the Old Netim Division in Akamkpa, Cross River State.

“The Commission approved her reinstatement from the date of her compulsory retirement and to be properly placed so as to be at par with her mates,” the statement added.

Similarly, ACP Muhammad Awwal Yunusa was freed from a punishment of severe reprimand, while CSP Allwell Okwuonu had his rank restored and was reinstated, subject to his date of retirement.

SP Clement Awoyemi also received approval for the adjustment of his reinstatement date, while ASPs Bamiselu Oluwaseun, Ahmed Monday, and Imoohi Doora were all reinstated.

Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), assured that the PSC will henceforth handle disciplinary cases more swiftly and fairly.

“The Commission will henceforth ensure that pending disciplinary matters are treated with despatch so that those found culpable are made to face the consequences while those exonerated are freed to continue with their career progression,” Argungu stated.

He emphasised that “the Commission will not at any time impede the career progression of any Officer who is not found guilty of any misdemeanour.”

Meanwhile, at the start of its second plenary session on Thursday, the PSC approved the promotion of several police officers, including the appointment of a new Deputy Inspector-General of Police and the elevation of one Commissioner of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police.

Among those promoted were SP Omenihu Obinna, Commander of the Anti-Cult Unit, Abia State Command; DSP Bankole Olajide Joseph, Commander of the Bank Guard Unit, Lagos State Command; and Ede Stella Ukamaka of the Police Hospital, Awka, Anambra State.

Others include Omeife Bethrand Emeka of 45 PMF, Force Headquarters, Abuja, and Nnamdi Nwoba, Officer-in-Charge of Surveillance, Ubakala Division, Abia State Command, who were all confirmed as Assistant Superintendents of Police.

The statement also noted that ASP Adeyemi Adeola, Chief of Staff to the Chairman of one of the Task Forces in Lagos State, had earlier been promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

The PSC reiterated its commitment to fairness, transparency, and professionalism in managing police officers’ discipline and career progression.
