Nicki Minaj Opens Up About ‘Constant Spiritual Warfare’ in Music Career

Nicki Minaj has spoken about the “spiritual warfare” she says she faced in the music industry. The rapper said the experience changed how she viewed the business and the people in it.

Early Years Were Different

Minaj said she enjoyed her early years in music. She believed artistes genuinely supported one another and wanted to see each other succeed.

“I think it took a while because in the beginning, it was pretty much a lot of fun. Honestly, it was. We had so much fun rooting for each other. I thought that’s how it would always be. I thought everyone just rooted for each other to win,” she said.

Change in Perspective

The rapper said her view changed when she noticed what she described as selfish behaviour from some people in the industry.

“I started realising that if you don’t get money with one person or a specific group of people, they don’t want you to get money at all, and that’s when I started realising that oh my God, what did I sign up for?” she said.

Minaj also alleged that some powerful figures treat artists as properties. She claimed they work against those who refuse to follow their expectations.

‘Constant Spiritual Warfare’

Speaking on the impact of those experiences, Minaj said she often felt unprepared for what came with fame and success.

“It was like constant spiritual warfare. I wish I had known sooner that this music industry was such a spiritual experience because I felt like I brought a knife to a gunfight,” she said.

She added, “Without having that information, I didn’t feel equipped for what was ahead, and no one had given me a heads up. I had to figure it out when I got there.”
