New RTR Mustang Gives You Supercar Power For Porsche 911 Money
  • RTR debuts the Spec 5 Mustang as a widebody pony car halo model.
  • Supercharged 5.0-liter V8 boosts output to more than 870 horses.
  • Pricing begins at $159,999 and includes a base Mustang GT model.

RTR has unveiled the Spec 5 Mustang, which is being billed as their new halo vehicle. That’s a bit of an understatement as pricing starts at $159,999, a a staggering $95,619 more than the 2026 Mustang Dark Horse, which stickers at $64,380.

Since the model is based on the Mustang GT with the Performance Package, it features a familiar 5.0-liter V8 engine. However, it’s joined by a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger, an HD Race Intercooler system, and a Borla cat-back exhaust.

Thanks to these changes, the output soars to 870+ hp (649 kW / 882 PS) and 660 lb-ft (894 Nm) of torque. That’s an increase of 390 hp (291 kW / 395 PS) and 245 lb-ft (332 Nm) over the GT, and it even surpasses Ford’s own track-focused flagship, the 815 hp GTD, by 55 hp. RTR didn’t say how fast the pony car is, but the engine can be paired to either a six-speed manual or a ten-speed automatic transmission.

Sticking with the performance theme, the coupe has an RTR tactical performance suspension system that has “proprietary 30-way adjustable front coilovers and rear dampers, paired with height-adjustable springs, and adjustable front and rear sway bars.” Buyers will also find 20-inch forged aluminum wheels that are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. They’re backed up by a Brembo braking system, which has two-piece rotors and six-piston calipers up front.

On the styling front, the model has been equipped with a widebody kit that includes unique fenders, bumper extensions, and composite rocker panels. They’re joined by a ventilated hood, an illuminated grille, and special graphics. The Mustang also sports a number of carbon fiber components including the front splitter, side skirts, and “wake towers.”

Elsewhere, the car has a sizable spoiler as well as a reimagined fuel door that opens upwards. RTR was strangely proud about the latter as they said it demonstrates their “relentless commitment to detail” as it has “billet aluminum arms, a nylon laser-printed bucket, and an integrated water drainage system.”

The company only provided a few glimpses of the interior, but the cabin has RTR-branded Recaro sport seats featuring cool grey leather bolsters as well as black suede inners. They’re joined by RTR floor mats, a teardrop-shaped shifter, and a serialized dash plaque engraved with Vaughn Gittin Jr.’s signature.

Spec 5 production will be limited to 50 units for the 2026 model year and the massive price tag includes the base Mustang GT. While it’s ridiculously expensive, the model undercuts the 830 hp (619 kW / 842 PS) Shelby Super Snake by over $10,000.
