Neville blasts complacent Man United after shock defeat to Everton

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has criticised the current squad, claiming they showed complacency during their shock 1-0 defeat to Everton on Monday night.

The Red Devils failed to capitalise after the visitors were reduced to ten men just 15 minutes into the game following a red card shown to Idrissa Gana Gueye. Instead, it was the Toffees who scored the decisive goal in the first half through Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville harshly criticized Ruben Amorim’s team for their lack of intensity and fight.

He said: “It’s complacency, and complacency will kill you. The minute that you think as a football player that you just have to turn up on that pitch and you’re Manchester United and you can play or any football club, you’re done.

“It just smelt of complacency. They weren’t at it from the beginning. That is a bad one for United.

“You can’t go from the fight that they showed in certain games to that. It just erodes confidence, it erodes trust. We’re trying to build a trust in a manager, we’re trying to build a trust in a team.”
