My Sister is Angry Because I Asked Her Boyfriend to Take Care of Her

My sister takes everything from me, even money to fix her hair. She’s twenty-five and working. Her job doesn’t pay much, so I could understand her need for assistance, and I assisted her without thinking twice about it.

She lives with my mom and dad, so anytime I went home and she saw me, she would tax me. She would call and ask me to send her MoMo. She would send a photo of a dress and say, “Just imagine me in this dress. Just imagine.” I would send her the money to buy it.

One day a guy followed her home and she introduced the guy as her boyfriend. Surprisingly, my parents already knew the guy because he had been visiting her very often. I asked her, “You have a boyfriend? Since when?” She boldly told me they had dated for over a year.” Out of shock I said, “And I’m still the one giving you money to fix your hair?”

I turned to the guy and jovially told him, “Please do your job so she would leave me alone.” My parents laughed and I also laughed, but the two of them wore a serious face. Later in the evening, she texted me and said, “What was that embarrassment for? Do you know what you said hurt him that bad? Now he’s not talking to me.”

I was so angry but I controlled the anger. I said, “Call him on the phone and let me apologize to him. I was only joking.” She replied, “This response is enough. I will send a screenshot to him.”

I insisted I wanted to even apologize in person, but she declined and said she would handle the rest.

A few days later, she was asking me to send her money because she was broke. I didn’t hold back. “You’re not even ashamed that you’re telling me this? You’re broke? Where’s the guy I hurt? This is the time for him to show his krakye powers. Never in your life ask for anything from me again. I have a girlfriend. When she’s broke, I sort her out. I can’t do that job twice when you also have a boyfriend.”

The two of us haven’t talked again since then. I think this time she’s the one I hurt and not her boyfriend. She took the rest of the fight to her WhatsApp status saying, “Don’t allow them to control you because of the little favor they do for you,” and later also said, “They want you to worship them just because they are ahead. Life is not a race.”

I read such things and I laugh. She can sing from all the chapters of Songs of Solomon or recite all the poetic motivation speeches in the world; I don’t care. She has a man she carries on her head. That man should carry her on his head too. Or am I being too hard on her for nothing?
