My Brother Wants Me To Wash His Girlfriend’s Clothes

I live with my elder brother in a two-bedroom apartment in Accra. I’m a midwife by profession. While I am waiting to be posted, I have gotten myself a job at a private facility. It’s quite a demanding job. I work 12-hour shifts. So I barely have time to get things done at home.

Because of that, I go to the market once a month to buy enough groceries and toiletries for the household. I even go the extra mile to prepare a variety of dishes to store in the freezer. That way my brother wouldn’t resort to eating out when the food runs out and I am busy. He doesn’t know how to cook.

When it’s just the two of us, we manage what I cook for it to last for an entire month.

It’s not the same when his girlfriend comes around though. These days she is here often. I don’t have a problem when she eats the food I prepare. After all, I only contribute 30% toward household shopping.

However, she makes life challenging for me at home. She would come over and not even help sweep. She would leave her dirty clothes behind too.

Can you believe that my brother insists that I wash her clothes? I see no reason I should be the one to wash them but he tells me, “Just do it. She comes here for my sake.” So now I wash my own clothes, my brother’s, and his girlfriend’s. I am three years older than this girl. Make this make sense.

I don’t mind have any ill feelings against her. I am even happy they found each other. Her presence in the house doesn’t bother me at all. She and I are cool. We chat when she is around. My only problem is my brother’s insistence that I wash her clothes. We have had several arguments because of it. He thinks I am making a big deal out of nothing. Is he right?
