The Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG) has announced its intention to resume strike action tomorrow, November 28, in demand of better conditions of service.

This decision comes after the association’s employers failed to address their concerns.

In a letter addressed to the Minister of Health and other stakeholders, MOWAG General Secretary Richard Kofi Jordan explained that despite efforts to resolve the issues, they remain unresolved.

“We have been left with no choice but to take this decision to protect the interest of our members,” Jordan stated.

The association is demanding improved working conditions, including the provision of sufficient Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), payment of outstanding salary arrears, and financial clearance for 500 additional mortuary workers.

MOWAG has instructed its members in both public and private facilities to close all mortuaries starting November 28, 2024, until further notice.

This strike action is expected to disrupt mortuary services nationwide, potentially affecting funeral arrangements and bereaved families.

The association remains open to dialogue, urging authorities to take immediate steps to resolve the impasse. “We hope that even at this late stage, we can still resolve our differences through open and productive discussions,” Jordan added.
