In preparations and build-up to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers, Nigeria’s Super Falcons have recalled key players, as head coach Justine Madugu named a strong 25-woman squad for a double-header friendly against Cameroon.

The list, released by the Nigeria Football Federation, follows the cancellation of the planned WAFU B four-nation tournament, leaving the two-legged clash with the Cameroon Women’s National Football Team as Nigeria’s only confirmed fixtures in this international window.

Monday Gift, Okobi-Okeoghene Return as Falcons Regroup

One of the headline inclusions is forward Gift Monday, who returns to the national team after missing out on the squad for the 2024 WAFCON held in 2025 in Morocco.

Also making a long-awaited comeback is Canada-based midfielder, Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene, whose last appearance for Nigeria came at the 2022 WAFCON.

The return of both players adds experience and depth as Nigeria intensifies preparations for continental and global challenges ahead.

Ajibade Leads the 25-woman Super Falcons Squad

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade headlines the squad, alongside first-choice goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and attacking options Esther Okoronkwo and Chinwendu Ihezuo.

England-based goalkeeper Comfort Erhabor has earned her first-ever call-up, while Mexico-based defender Chidinma Okeke makes a return to the squad.

Midfielder Precious Christopher, currently plying her trade in Tanzania, also received a maiden invitation, underlining Madugu’s continued push to widen the talent pool.

Asisat Oshoala Missing From the Squad List

Defensive stalwarts Osinachi Ohale, Michelle Alozie, Oluwatosin Demehin and Ashleigh Plumptre all retained their places.

The midfield is bolstered by Halimatu Ayinde, Christy Ucheibe, Deborah Abiodun and Jennifer Echegini, while attackers Rinsola Babajide and Folashade Ijamilusi complete a potent forward line.

Notably absent from the list is six-time CAF Women’s Player of the Year Asisat Oshoala.

Cameroon Friendlies Confirmed

The nine-time African champions will face the Indomitable Lionesses in two friendly matches in Yaoundé:

  • Saturday, 28 February 2026

  • Tuesday, 3 March 2026

These fixtures form a crucial part of Nigeria’s preparations for the 13th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place in Morocco from 17 March to 3 April 2026.

All four semi-finalists at the tournament will qualify automatically for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
