Miner gunned down at Aketechieso

A tragic shooting has rocked Aketechieso, a mining community in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region, where a man was gunned down by unknown assailants on Sunday, October 5, 2025.

The victim, identified as Martin Issah in his late 30s, was returning from mining work at Adomanu with his brother, Daniel Issah, when the pair were ambushed.

The attackers, believed to be targeting their gold detector machine, reportedly opened fire on them.

According to the Assembly Member for the Aketechieso–Amamuom–Anakyirem Electoral Area, Krobea Asante, Martin was shot in the face and died instantly.

His brother sustained gunshot wounds but managed to escape and is currently receiving treatment at a health facility.

Mr. Asante described the incident as deeply troubling and called for urgent, intensified police patrols in the area to curb rising insecurity, warning that such attacks could spiral if not swiftly addressed.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue, while police have launched investigations into the deadly ambush.
