Twenty-four students of Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School (GGCSS) Maga, who were abducted by bandits last week, have been rescued and formally handed over to the Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris.

This is contained in a statement signed by Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser (Media & Publicity) to the Governor of Kebbi State on Wednesday.

The handover took place on Tuesday night in Birnin Kebbi and was conducted by the Theatre Commander, Major General W. B. Idris, following directives from the Minister of State for Defence, Muhammad Bello Matawalle.

Major General Idris said the military acted swiftly after the abduction.

“Immediately after the tragic abduction, troops were mobilised and launched an intensive pursuit of the bandits. Magiga Forest was identified as the location where the victims were being held. The area was cordoned off, and all entry and exit points blocked by soldiers,” he explained.

He added, “On the 19th of this month, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the Minister of State for Defence, Muhammad Bello Matawalle, to relocate to Kebbi to ensure the full return of all abducted schoolgirls. I am happy to present the 24 recovered victims today. They are all here, hale and hearty, no deaths, no injuries.”

Major General Idris recommended that the girls undergo thorough medical examinations to assess their health.

He also conveyed the appreciation of the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Staff for the support from the Kebbi State Government, the Minister of State for Defence, and other security agencies involved in the rescue.

Receiving the students, Governor Idris thanked Almighty God and President Tinubu for deploying the full machinery of government for the operation.

He also commended the military, security agencies, and the Minister of State for Defence for their dedication and coordination.

Governor Idris assured that the girls would receive comprehensive medical checks before being reunited with their families.

He extended his gratitude to Nigerians, particularly religious leaders and dignitaries, for their prayers, support, and messages during the ordeal.
