Microsoft’s Copilot App Now Lets You Create Documents and Connect to Gmail

Microsoft has rolled out a major update to its Copilot a on Windows, making it even more powerful and useful for productivity. The update lets users create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations directly from a chat session, and even link their Gmail or Outlook accounts for personalized results.

The new feature is currently available to Windows Insiders and will roll out to all Windows 11 users soon.

Create Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Files from Chat

With this update, Copilot can now generate Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and PDFs, all within a chat.

Microsoft explained that users can now turn “ideas, notes, and data into shareable and editable documents with no extra tools required.”

For longer responses (over 600 characters), Copilot also adds an export button, allowing users to instantly send content to Word, PowerPoint, Excel, or PDF. This means you can brainstorm ideas or summarize data in chat, then export the result into a fully formatted file with one click.

Connect to Gmail, Outlook, and More

Another major feature is Copilot’s new ability to connect to online accounts like Outlook, Gmail, and Google Drive.

Once connected, Copilot can pull data from these platforms for instance, you could ask it to find all invoices from a specific company in your inbox or fetch a contact’s email address instantly.

This is an opt-in feature, meaning you’ll have to manually connect your accounts in the app’s connectors section. Supported services include Outlook, Gmail, OneDrive, Google Drive, Google Calendar, and Google Contacts similar to the Google Drive and Dropbox integrations that ChatGPT introduced earlier this year.

What’s Next for Microsoft Copilot

This update comes ahead of Microsoft’s new OneDrive app, expected next year. The revamped OneDrive will feature an updated gallery view, AI-powered slideshows, and new editing tools — continuing Microsoft’s focus on making AI a key part of its productivity suite.
