Meta Now Lets You Share Hyperscape VR Rooms With Friends

Meta is expanding its photorealistic VR technology, Hyperscape, by allowing users to invite friends into their digitally scanned rooms. Previously, Hyperscape experiences were strictly solo. You could explore your VR replica of your living room or even Gordon Ramsay’s kitchen, but always alone. Now, Meta is rolling out support for shared Hyperscape rooms, making these virtual spaces social for the first time.

According to Meta, up to eight people can now join the same Hyperscape space using a Quest 3, Quest 3S, or through the Meta Horizon mobile app. This upgrade marks a key step in Meta’s push to make the metaverse more interactive, blending digital replicas with social presence.

How Shared Hyperscape Rooms Work

Meta says the new feature will roll out gradually over the next few months. Many users may not see the update immediately, so Meta advises patience. Once the feature reaches your account, you will need to rescan your room before you can create a shareable link.

The update also brings two technical improvements:

  • On-device rendering for smoother performance
  • Audio support inside Hyperscape rooms

These upgrades will make virtual spaces feel more immersive and realistic during group visits.

A Step Toward Meta’s Larger Metaverse Vision

Meta describes Hyperscape as a bridge between real-world spaces and the digital metaverse. Instead of exploring only fantasy VR worlds, users can now bring others into life-like recreations of their own homes or any place they’ve scanned.

In Meta’s words, the goal is to create a mix of experiences. Some days you might want to explore a game world; other days, you might want to spend time in a realistic digital version of your home with friends or family.

The company also hints at future possibilities where creators mix scanned spaces with stylized virtual elements, pushing creativity even further.
