Mercedes-Benz Considering Dropping The GLC And GLE Coupe

Mercedes-Benz is considering dropping the GLC Coupe and the larger GLE Coupe from its lineup as part of plans to consolidate models.

According to Autocar, the two Coupe-SUV models are said to be at the “top of the list” of existing models facing discontinuation, while Mercedes continues the process of transitioning to an all-electric lineup.

The company has already dropped the C-Class Coupe and S-Class Coupe with internal combustion engines from its lineup in recent years, along with the CLS and X-Class pick-up.

The original plans also called for the A-Class hatchback and B-Class MPV to be phased out by the end of 2024. However, they have been delayed until 2026, when they are expected to be phased out of the Mercedes lineup.

A source at Mercedes headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany, acknowledged an earlier report by a German publication Handelsblat that suggested an announcement of further model consolidation was imminent. “Every current model is under evaluation. It’s a continuous process.”

Later this year, Mercedes plans to introduce the first of a quartet of models that will be based on the new MMA platform, namely the third-generation CLA sedan. The new four-door model, which will be offered in a purely electric version and with SUS engines, will be joined in 2025 by the successors of the CLA Shooting Brake, EQA and EQB.
