MCE warns youth against unprotected sex as HIV cases rise 

Mr Thomas Msawud Ayarba, the Atebubu/Amantin Municipal Chief Executive in the Bono East Region has warned the youth in the area to guard against unprotected sex.

He said HIV and AIDS were rife in the area and advised that abstinence remained the best option for them, however those who could not control their sexual desires ought to protect themselves.

Mr Ayarba gave the advice when he addressed the municipal celebration of the 69th Independence anniversary at Atebubu.

He expressed appreciation to the chiefs and people of the area for their support, urging them to continue to support the government to bring the development of the municipality to the next level.

Mr Ayarba also commended the government sector workers, private businesses, and market women for their diverse contributions to economic growth and progressive development.

“Our independence anniversary should bring a sense of renewal, unity and commitment towards developing our municipality”, he urged reiterating the government’s dedication to fulfilling the Election 2024 promises to better the lives of the people.

Mr Ayarba said plans were far advanced for the establishment of a farmer centre in Atebubu, saying that very soon work on the construction of the 24hour market would commence at Amantin too.

He said construction works on the mechanised borehole facilities to provide clean water for some of the communities as well as the on-going rehabilitation of the Atebubu/Amantin Municipal Assembly building would also be completed soon.

Nana Ofori Yeboah, the Twafohene (sub-chief) of the Atebubu Traditional Area expressed concern about the growing trend of indiscipline among the youth and students and called for collective approach to tackle the situation.

He called for the reintroduction of corporal punishment in schools, saying the cancellation caning had contributed to rise in social vices and acts of lawlessness in schools.
