Maxxine Dupri explains why she turned heel and became a Paul Heyman Girl

After weeks of anticipation, Maxxine Dupri finally turned heel on this week’s Raw when she destroyed Angelo Dawkins’ testicles to help The Vision regain the world tag team championship.

In an interview this week with Complex Graps, Dupri explained why she turned heel. It was all about choosing herself, choosing Austin Theory, and surrounding herself with YouTube douchebag greatness.

“So much has changed, so much has happened in the past year, the past six months. I won my first title. I lost my first title. I lost a lot of opportunities. I wasn’t being given opportunities. I was continuing to be overlooked, but not by Austin, of course. And I think it just came to a point where at some point you have to choose yourself. I chose me, and I did what needed to be done…

I mean, have you seen [Theory]? The answer’s pretty clear. I want to be with the best of the best. You are the average of the five people you surround yourself with, and so I’m gonna surround myself with the best…now I’m going to be in a position where I have people that will actually have my back. And I know that Austin will have my back, just like I have his.”

Dupri is delighted at the thought of being a Paul Heyman Girl, because his track record of excellence speaks for itself.

“He’s very proud of me…I think aligning myself with the right people just had to be done. Paul Heyman is the right person, and we’ve seen that for years.”

Maxxine doesn’t understand why anybody is surprised by her decision to stick with Theory.

“We are a stunning couple…what did you think was gonna happen? Did you think I was gonna continue to get trampled on, and let my man get trampled on? No. Gloves are off, baby. They asked for this. Everyone pushed me to this limit, so I don’t know why everyone is shocked.”

Finally, the newest member of The Vision says Otis and Akira Tozawa were never there when she really needed them, so it was time to move on.

“It just got to a point where I had to choose me. I’ve been choosing them for years, and that hasn’t gotten me anywhere.

Also let’s not forget, all those times when Becky was getting disqualified and purposely doing things so that I couldn’t win the title, where were they? Were they ever ringside for me? So I had to do that on my own. And then when I lost it, thanks to Nattie, where were they?

So to me it’s not personal, it’s just about me choosing me. But no one has been choosing me. Literally no one. And Austin has chosen me, so I’m choosing him, and I’m choosing Maxxine.”
