Marriage Is Overrated, Just Find Someone You Can Cohabit With — Yvonne Jegede

Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has shared her candid views on marriage, describing it as overrated in 2025.

Speaking during an interview on Naija FM, the actress advised people to focus more on finding a compatible partner they can peacefully cohabit with, rather than rushing into marriage because of societal expectations.

According to Yvonne, she has witnessed many long-term relationships fail shortly after marriage. She pointed out that some couples date for as long as 10 to 15 years, only for their marriages to collapse within two or three years.

She explained that this reality has changed her perspective on marriage, stressing that companionship, understanding, and peace matter more than the title of being married.

Yvonne also clarified that she is not against marriage, stating that she remains open to it. However, she emphasized that she is not actively searching for marriage.

She said: “I am open to remarriage if it comes, but I am not looking for it. I have learnt not to say ‘never!’

“I think marriage is overrated. A lot of people who dated for 10 to 15 years, got married, and then broke up within 2 to 3 years.”

“I think it is better to find who you love and just cohabit with them.”
