Marks & Spencer urges customers not to eat chicken sold in stores amid health risk

Marks & Spencer has shared a fresh warning about four chicken products that customers should not eat.

The retailer told everyone who bought the foods to return them to stores.

The retailer stated that, while the 'use by' dates have passed, customers may have frozen the affected items and they have been encouraged to check for this.

M&S stated: "Customer safety is of paramount importance to Marks & Spencer, and we take all issues regarding the production of our foods extremely seriously.

​"Marks & Spencer is taking the precautionary action of highlighting that four fresh cooked poultry products that are past their use by date, but may be in customers' freezers, should be returned to store due to a low microbiological risk.

"Only the date codes shown below are potentially impacted. No products currently on sale are affected."

Marks & Spencer shoppers are asked to return the products to stores where they will be refunded.

It added: "Any customers in possession of these products in their freezer, please do not consume. Return it to your nearest store where a full refund will be given.

"We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused. For more information contact us on 0333 014 8555."

This comes as Asda and Sainsbury's pull snacks from stores over a serious risk which makes it "unsafe to eat".

Packs of itsu sizzling pork gyoza have been recalled as they could contain small pieces of plastic.

It stated: "itsu [grocery] is recalling frozen 'itsu sizzling pork gyoza', best before 08/03/2025 from Asda and Sainsbury's as it may contain small pieces of plastic, making the product unsafe to eat. No other itsu [grocery] products or best before dates are affected.

"If you have purchased this product, please send a picture of the best before date (located on the reverse of the packaging)."
