Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk didn’t hold back after his team’s disappointing 2-0 loss to Everton at Goodison Park.

The defeat dealt a blow to Liverpool’s aspirations of winning the Premier League this season, with Everton striving to distance themselves from the relegation zone.

Van Dijk, speaking to Sky Sports and as reported by the Sun, expressed his disappointment and issued a stark warning about Liverpool’s title ambitions.

“Disappointed in so many ways,” Van Dijk began. “I think everyone has to look in the mirror and assess their own performance and determination to win the league.”

He continued, “But if we continue to perform as we did today, failing to win challenges and giving the referee opportunities to award numerous free kicks, then our chances of winning the title are slim.”

Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher provided his analysis of the match and Liverpool’s season on Sky Sports, painting a sobering picture for the Anfield faithful.

“It’s Everton’s night. As a Liverpool fan, you have to accept that,” Carragher said. “It marks the end of the title challenge. They need to ensure they finish the season strongly now.”

Acknowledging Liverpool’s squandered opportunities and lack of clinical finishing, Carragher urged against directing too much anger towards the team and Jurgen Klopp. “It’s been a fantastic journey, but tonight belongs to Everton,” he concluded.
