Lionel Messi Begins His 3-Day GOAT Tour in India as Fans Overwhelm Security During Statue Unveiling

Football icon Lionel Messi has arrived in India for a three-day visit as part of his widely talked-about “GOAT Tour.”

Messi was accompanied by his club teammates Luis Suárez and Rodrigo De Paul during the visit. The trio unveiled a statue in Messi’s honor on Saturday in Kolkata, with the event taking place around 10:30 a.m. local time (05:00 GMT).

Following the unveiling, Messi was scheduled to continue his tour with stops in Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Delhi.

Despite the excitement surrounding his visit, the event did not end smoothly. Large crowds of supporters reportedly became unruly, all attempting to get close to the football superstar.

It was shared that fans paid ₹12,000 each for the opportunity to see Messi in person. However, the situation escalated when Messi walked around the pitch, prompting supporters to overrun security and rush onto the field.

Security personnel were briefly overwhelmed as fans bypassed barricades in their attempt to meet the Argentine legend.
