A black Lexus RX 350 rammed into a Toyota RAV4 in the early hours of today (19th January) at the Adeniji Intersection on the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge after the driver of the Lexus SUV reportedly fell asleep at the wheel.

In the 3-vehicle accident, another vehicle, a silver Lexus LS 460 sedan driving too close behind also rear-ended the Lexus SUV after the latter came to a stop.

While providing an update on the situation, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said that the accident was affecting traffic movement from Adekunle inward the Island.

“A driver of a Lexus jeep was fast asleep while driving and ran into another vehicle on the Third mainland bridge at Adeniji Intersection,” LASTMA said in a post on its verified X account (formerly Twitter).

Footage taken at the scene of the crash and shared by LASTMA showed emergency responders making efforts to remove the damaged vehicles involved in the 3-vehicle accident.

“Cones have been well placed behind for security measures with ongoing efforts to evacuate both vehicles off the location. This is currently affecting traffic movement from Adekunle inward the Island.”
