In a significant move highlighting LAMATA’s commitment to local content development, the agency’s delegation has embarked on a site tour of SAGLEV’s manufacturing plant in Ikorodu.

The LAMATA team was led by the Head of Bus Service, Dr. Kemi Amure, and the Head of Planning, Engr. Osa Konyeha, who thoroughly inspected the facility.

The visit focused on assessing SAGLEV’s operational capacity and manufacturing expertise, which the company has readily offered to support LAMATA’s urgent need to expand its fleet.

LAMATA is actively seeking strategic ways to expand its bus fleet to cater to the ever-increasing demand for mass transit across the state. By engaging with SAGLEV, LAMATA is exploring the potential for a partnership that would leverage local assembly capabilities to deliver sustainable, electric bus solutions tailored for the Lagos environment.

With SAGLEV keen to provide its manufacturing prowess, this collaboration could represent a major milestone in Lagos State’s journey to decarbonize its public transport system and build a more reliable and sustainable transit future.

LASTMA has commended the laudable conduct of one of its officers, Muibi Ademola (Bravo 27), for refusing a ₦20,000 monetary offer from a motorist at the Ago–Ibiwoye axis of Okota, Lagos.

Citing a report published in The Nation newspaper of Wednesday, October 22, 2025 (page 23), LASTMA said motorist had drawn Officer Ademola’s attention to a developing traffic congestion within the Ago–Ibiwoye corridor.

“Overwhelmed by the officer’s prompt response and efficiency, the motorist reportedly offered him a monetary token of ₦20,000 in appreciation.”

“However, in an extraordinary demonstration of moral fortitude and ethical rectitude, Officer Ademola politely declined the offer, asserting that he was merely executing his lawful responsibility for which he receives adequate remuneration from the Lagos State Government.”

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched a new digital verification platform designed to curb vehicle smuggling, enhance transparency, and strengthen accountability in the automobile importation process.

Speaking at the unveiling on 20 October, Customs, boss said that the initiative, known as the Customs Verification Management System (CVMS), will significantly reduce the circulation of smuggled and improperly cleared vehicles while boosting government revenue.

“Anyone who invests millions of naira in a vehicle would not hesitate to pay N15,000 to verify its authenticity and ensure their investment is protected,” said Customs’ boss.

The Customs chief noted that payments can be made using any valid card issued by financial institutions in Nigeria or abroad, with verification results generated instantly.

The Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line, operated by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), turned a year this month since commercial passenger operation began on Tuesday, 15th October 2024.

In its first year, the Red Line moved from six (6) daily trips to nine (9) trips per day and slashed single-trip fare from N1,500 to N1,000 from end to end to help increase the accessibility and popularity of the service.

As part of efforts to reduce waiting time at each station, LAMATA also said it is set to receive three additional train sets, with each consisting of eight carriages.

The Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line, which shares tracks with the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), stretches 27-kilometer between Agbado in Ogun State and Oyingbo in Lagos State.

Boasting eight stations at Oyingbo, Yaba, Mushin, Oshodi, Ikeja, Agege, Iju and Agbado (in Ogun State), the first phase of the Lagos Red Line has reduced travel times between Agbado and Oyingbo to just 55 minutes from close to three hours.
