Lagos Police Seal Signatious Hotel After 29-Year-Old Man Di£s During Pool Party

The Lagos State Police Command has sealed Signatious Hotel located in Ajao Estate following the death of a 29-year-old man, Mattias Airenekhueme, who reportedly di£d under unclear circumstances after attending a pool party at the hotel.

According to a report by The PUNCH on February 12, a source revealed that the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, shut down the hotel as investigations continue. The organiser of the pool party has also been arrested, bringing the total number of people currently in police custody to four.

“The police have sealed the hotel pending an ongoing investigation into the incident. The organiser of the pool party is also currently in police custody,” the source added.

Mattias reportedly attended the pool party on January 31. It was gathered that he had gone there to sell tickets and make some money before the tragic incident occurred.

His father, Henry Airenekhueme, told the publication that he received a distress call that day from one of Mattias’ elder brothers, informing him that his son had been rushed to Isolo General Hospital and that a family member was urgently needed.

When he arrived at the hospital, he said he met his son’s lifeless body still inside the vehicle that had brought him to the facility.

Airenekhueme explained that one of Mattias’ friends, who took him to the hospital, said they had both been sitting together with a lady before he briefly stepped away.

“He said when he returned about five minutes later and tried calling my son, there was no response. The lady told him my son had left the spot, but his phone was still there charging. While searching for him, they later found his body in the swimming pool,” the father narrated.

However, the grieving father said he has doubts about claims that his son drowned, pointing to what he described as unusual signs on the body.

“If he truly drowned, why was his stomach flat instead of swollen? And why was there foam coming out of his mouth and nose?” he queried.

He also disclosed that an autopsy is currently being carried out to determine the exact cause of death.

“An autopsy is being carried out by the police. We are waiting for the outcome,” he added.
