Lagos State is leveraging the Africa Gaming Expo 2026 to deepen its push for economic growth, tourism development, and global relevance in the gaming sector, the Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority, Bashir Are, has said.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event held at Eko Hotels & Suites, Are described the expo as a landmark gathering that has positioned Lagos as a leading hub for gaming and entertainment on the continent.

“Every continent is represented. There’s nothing like this on the continent. You can check with other delegates from all over the world, there’s nothing like this on the continent,” he said.

Are credited the sustained support of the Lagos State Government for the growth of the expo, noting that the administration’s agenda around tourism and entertainment has been deliberate and inclusive.

“The current government, when you look at the team’s agenda, tourism and entertainment is part of it, and intentionally, we stick to that. That’s where we belong as a lottery and gaming agency. So, how can we contribute to that part of the team’s agenda? And it is understood by all the cabinet members, Mr. Governor, the Deputy Governor, and also the private sector. That’s why we are being supported,” he said.

He extended appreciation to stakeholders across both public and private sectors, including the Federal Government, for their role in sustaining the event over the past three years.

“Thank you, Mr. Governor. Thank you, the President of Nigeria. And thank you, all of the private sector that has been supportive of this event for the past three years,” Are added.

According to him, the economic impact of the expo is already evident across Lagos, with hospitality and service sectors experiencing increased activity driven by international participation.

“For the next four days, Eko Hotel, Federal Palace Hotel, Aberdeen Suite, Black Diamond, and Radisson Blu, they are all booked. Because we have people from all over the world, not just from Africa, tourism benefits, entertainment benefits, restaurants and lounges are making money. The entertainment service providers are also performing and getting paid. So, we’re putting jobs at their doorsteps,” he said.
