Lagos Airport old terminal on fire

Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, on Monday, announced a fire outbreak at Terminal 1 of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

FAAN said its firefighting team swiftly mobilised to the scene and is currently working to contain the situation and prevent further damage.

It however confirmed that no loss of life had been recorded as of the time of this report.

The agency assured the public that further updates will be provided as more details become available.

In the notice posted on its X handle (formerly Twitter), it stated, “The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) wishes to inform the public of a fire outbreak at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

“Our firefighting team is currently responding and working to contain the situation. No loss of life has been recorded.

“Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”

The old terminal is currently undergoing rehabilitation by the Federal Government with N710bn allocated for the project.

Before Monday’s fire outbreak, FAAN had relocated some airlines and businesses operating at the old terminal to a temporary terminal as the rehabilitation work is underway.
