Kwankwaso Denies Plans To Leave NNPP Ahead Of 2027 Elections

The National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has clarified that he has no plans to leave the party for another political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The statement was made on Thursday,  during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja.

Addressing party members, Kwankwaso emphasized that the NNPP was performing well in Kano and other states, and expressed satisfaction with the party’s progress.

He said, “But let me take this opportunity to tell you that we have our party, and we are comfortable.

“We are happy. We are ready to do whatever it takes because we are not in a hurry.”

The former Kano State Governor dismissed recent rumors suggesting he might defect, stressing that any decision regarding the 2027 elections would be collective.

“If there will be any negotiation, it will be collective. It will not be only for the negotiators but for the entire members of this NNPP family,” he added.

Kwankwaso advised party members not to be swayed by the hype surrounding defections to other parties.

He recalled his own political journey, noting how he lost the 2003 governorship election in Kano despite being a sitting governor due to public support for the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

He returned to power eight years later, calling the experience “a good lesson for everybody.”

He concluded by stressing that Nigerians had already begun forming opinions about the 2027 elections, saying, “Reality will determine the people’s votes.”
