Two Ghanaian men identified by United States prosecutors as senior figures in an international cybercrime syndicate have pleaded guilty to their roles in a fraud operation that defrauded victims across the US of more than US$100 million.

Isaac Oduro Boateng, 37, popularly known as “Kofi Boat”, and Inusah Ahmed, 41, also known as “Pascal”, entered their guilty pleas before US District Judge Arun Subramanian in the Southern District of New York.

Boateng pleaded guilty on Thursday, October 29, 2026, while Ahmed admitted his involvement on October 27. Both pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, an offence punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

According to court documents, the syndicate, which was largely based in Ghana, operated romance scams and business email compromise schemes targeting individuals and companies in the United States.

The group allegedly targeted vulnerable individuals, particularly older men and women, by creating fake online identities to establish romantic relationships and gain their trust before convincing them to send money.

The syndicate also impersonated businesses and manipulated email communications to trick companies into transferring funds, which were subsequently laundered to West Africa.

Prosecutors described Boateng and Ahmed as “chairmen” who helped manage and supervise the organisation. Boateng has been linked to approximately US$12.5 million in losses, while Ahmed is responsible for about US$28.5 million.

As part of their guilty pleas, they agreed to pay restitution and forfeiture of US$12,529,213.98 and US$28,574,002 respectively.

The case involved cooperation between US authorities and several Ghanaian security agencies, including the Attorney General’s Office, EOCO and the Ghana Police Service.
