Public Service CS Justin Muturi has shifted his stance regarding the alleged abduction of his son, Leslie Muturi, in June 2024.

Muturi had earlier on Sunday January 12, criticized the government’s silence on the matter, claiming that it has eroded public trust in the country’s security organs.

He also lamented the lack of transparency, even as a former Attorney General with access to intelligence networks.

“I have personally suffered as my son was abducted, leaving my family in turmoil,” Muturi said.

“I’ve not received any answers as to why my son was abducted, held incommunicado, and no reasons were given for the ordeal.”

However, Muturi while honoring the summon by the DCI on Tuesday, January 14, stated that he has confidence the relevant authorities as they carry out their work.

“Today, I honored an invitation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to record a statement at Kilimani Police Station regarding the abduction of my son, Leslie Muturi, last year,” he said.

“This matter remains deeply personal to me as a father, and I am committed to supporting every effort to ensure justice is served. I want to express my confidence in our investigative agencies and their unwavering pursuit of the truth in this case.”

He added, ” Let us continue to trust in the process and work together to build a society where every Kenyan feels safe and secure.

Muturi Accuses Noordin Haji of Abducing His Son

In a recorded statement to the DCI, the CS revealed that when he decided to physically visit State House to urge the President to take action on the matter, it was disclosed that the National Intelligence Service (NIS) was holding his son.

“The President joked, asking why anyone would want to arrest a young person over the Gen Z demonstrations. He even mentioned that Kiunjuir’s son and the sons of other officials had been involved in similar demonstrations,” he noted.

“Standing outside the pavilion, I heard the President ask Haji if he was holding my son, Noordin confirmed, that indeed he was holding my son and the President instructed him to release Leslie immediately. Noordin responded that Leslie would be released within an hour,” the CS added.

In an interview with the Nation, Muturi said that his remarks were not politically motivated, but driven by the need for answers.

“I am fully aware of the doctrine of collective responsibility, but since I am also a victim of the abductions and… I have not gotten any answers, I have taken this unusual step so that the matter can be debated honestly and openly as a country,” he said

“This issue, if left unchecked, has the potential to plunge the country into chaos and anarchy.”

Leaders Call Out Muturi to Resign

Muturi’s recent remarks on abductions have sparked criticism, with former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo accusing him of irresponsibility in airing his grievances publicly.

Kabogo, while addressing the issue while appearing before the National Assembly vetting committee, argued that Muturi’s public dissent over the abduction of youths and his call for security agencies to reveal the numbers was inappropriate.

He added that such public declarations undermine leadership, contrasting politicians who think about elections with leaders focused on the next generation.

” From where I sit, that was very irresponsible of the JB Muturi. If I were in his position, I would have taken my dissent to the appointing authority or if I was afraid of facing the appointing authority I would go to Cabinet and air it there,” Kabogo stated.

” If I’m not satisfied, I will tender my resignation.  I resign because I don’t believe in what the government is doing in terms of abductions, but politicians that’s what they do.”

At the same time, National Assembly Chief Whip Sylvanus Osoro has announced plans to impeach Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi, accusing him of blackmailing the government over the increasing cases of abductions in the country.
