Jonathan’s PDP Loyalty Pledge: A Soothing Balm for Opposition Amid APC’s Economic Woes – Mark

By Emmanuel Kwada

Former National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jacob Mark, has hailed former President Goodluck Jonathan’s recent reaffirmation of commitment to the party as “soothing and reassuring,” describing it as the words of a true statesman of global repute.

In a statement, Mark praised Jonathan’s assurance during a closed-door meeting with the PDP’s National Working Committee on Tuesday, where the ex-president pledged to remain an active card-carrying member and intensify his involvement in party affairs ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The words of former President Goodluck Jonathan are both soothing and reassuring. They come not from a riffraff but from a statesman of global repute,” Mark said.

He contrasted this with the behavior of some politicians who “often forget their roots and allow their self-made egos to take center stage.”

Mark further lambasted the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of plunging Nigeria into economic turmoil. “The APC has thrown Nigeria into economic turmoil,” he stated, underscoring the need for principled leadership like Jonathan’s.

Jonathan’s pledge comes at a critical time for the PDP, which is navigating internal challenges and positioning itself as the main opposition force. PDP National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, described Jonathan’s remarks as encouraging, noting that the former president feels a deep obligation to the party that propelled him to the highest office.

Analysts see Jonathan’s renewed commitment as a potential boost for PDP unity, especially amid speculations about the 2027 presidential race and ongoing efforts to reconcile factions.

This development reinforces the PDP’s resolve to present a strong alternative to the APC in upcoming elections, including off-season governorship polls in Ekiti and Osun states.
