Jonathan Gresham’s new persona uses octopus ink as secret weapon in TNA

This is character development.

Jonathan Gresham is currently on a creative path of developing his character in TNA. It involves a mask and octopus ink. The end result was victory at Under Siege in his return match to TNA.

TNA explored Gresham’s journey of personal discovery through a series of vignettes. The payoff was a merging of his three selves. Gresham showed his new persona against Kushida.

Gresham flashed his greatness on the mat for slick sequences with Kushida as a dance partner.

However, there was an odd change to Gresham’s game. Beyond wearing a mask, he had various coughing fits spitting up black gunk. That aspect came to a head when Kushida stiffed the Tanaka punch to Gresham’s face. The Octopus coughed blank ink into his hand. The substance was utilized as a secret weapon for the finish.

When Gresham trapped Kushida in an octopus stretch, he smooshed the blank ink into Kushida face and covered his mouth. Whatever that substance was, it had a traumatic effect on the Time Splitter as Gresham pinned Kushida’s shoulders to the mat for the win. Kushida choked after the match and needed assistance walking to the back.

Well, that’s certainly an interesting way to earn victory. TNA will have to consult the official rule book to determine the legality of that blank ink. In the meantime, Gresham is walking down an intriguing path with this new persona.
