Inter Milan’s new signing, Manuel Akanji, has described the Nerazzurri as the best club in Italy following his arrival at San Siro.

The 30-year-old defender joins Inter on a season-long loan, with the club confirming that the deal includes an option to buy, which could become an obligation if certain conditions are met.

Akanji, who had previously been linked with AC Milan, Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace, completed his switch on the final day of the summer transfer window. He is the seventh addition to Cristian Chivu’s squad.

Speaking to Inter’s official website, Akanji said the decision to join the club was straightforward.

“It will definitely be different from the Premier League, even the Bundesliga was different. I still don’t know what it’s like as a player, but I’ve seen a lot of games and I like it a lot, which is also why I made this decision.

“I can’t wait to start with (coach Cristian) Chivu, to meet him and understand what kind of playing ideas he has in mind.

“For me, Inter is the biggest club in Italy and one of the best in the world. They’ve proven that in recent years. It was very easy to choose this club.”
