INEC Publishes Timetable For Enugu North Senatorial District Bye-election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the notice of election, timetable, and schedule of activities for the conduct of the Enugu North Senatorial District bye-election.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Enugu State, Dr. Chukwuemeka Chukwu, disclosed this at a press conference in Enugu on Wednesday, noting that the bye-election has been scheduled for June 20.

He said the election became necessary to fill the vacant seat representing Enugu North Senatorial District in the Senate.

According to him, the timetable includes the official publication of the Notice of Election on May 21, while political party primaries are scheduled to hold between May 22 and May 26.

He added that submission of nomination forms through the INEC nomination portal will take place between May 29 and June 2.

Chukwu further explained that the Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs) pre-training assessment, briefing, and training will hold between June 3 and June 7.

He said the publication of personal particulars of candidates is scheduled for June 9, while campaigns will commence on June 10.

He also noted that Presiding Officers (POs) and Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs) will undergo pre-training assessment, briefing, and training from June 10 to June 14.

According to him, submission of names of polling agents will close on June 11, while campaigns will end on June 18, 24 hours before the election.

“The Enugu North Senatorial District bye-election shall hold on June 20,” he said.

The REC reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, credible, inclusive, and transparent election, urging political parties and candidates to strictly adhere to the timetable and guidelines.
