India cricket ace rushed to hospital after suffering internal bleeding during match
Indian cricket star Shreyas Iyer, 30, was rushed to hospital and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after suffering a freak internal injury during Indias nine-wicket win over Australia in Sydney, an accident that doctors said could have been fatal. The ODI vice-captain was fielding during the third match when he made a brilliant backward-running catch to dismiss Alex Carey. However, as he fell to the ground, Iyer landed awkwardly on his left rib cage, immediately clutching his side in visible agony. Teammates quickly gathered around him as medical staff rushed onto the field. Realising the injury was more serious than a simple strain, they helped him off and transported him directly to a Sydney hospital for further evaluation. Scans revealed internal bleeding and a laceration to the spleen, forcing doctors to place him under emergency intensive care. The injury was described by a hospital insider as potentially fatal if not treated promptly. According to a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) statement: Shreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib cage while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney. He was taken to hospital for further evaluation. Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment, medically stable and recovering well. The BCCI medical team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his injury status. The Indian team doctor will remain in Sydney with Shreyas to evaluate his day-to-day progress. A source from the Press Trust of India provided additional details: Shreyas has been in ICU for the past couple of days. After the reports came in, internal bleeding was detected, and he had to be admitted immediately. He will remain under observation for anywhere between two to seven days, depending on recovery, to stop the spreading of infection due to bleeding. Things are stable now, but it could have been fatal. Hes a tough lad and should be fine soon. Iyer is expected to stay under medical supervision for at least a week, after which he will need an estimated three or more weeks of recovery before returning to competitive cricket. Doctors remain optimistic about his progress, but his return to full fitness will depend on how quickly his spleen heals and whether any complications from internal bleeding arise. The post India cricket ace rushed to hospital after suffering internal bleeding during match appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.
