Imo CPC, Others Fully Participates in 2026 Budget Defence at Ministry of Budget, Economic Planning, Statistics

The Imo State Consumer Protection Council (CPC), under its parent ministry, the Ministry of Trade and Investment, has reaffirmed its commitment to accountability and consumer welfare by fully participating in the 2026 budget defence exercise held at the Ministry of Budget, Economic Planning and Statistics, Owerri.

The Director General of Imo CPC, Hon. Mrs. Obioma Okafor, PhD, led the delegation and presented the Council’s 2026 budget proposals, which focused on strengthening consumer protection mechanisms, increasing awareness campaigns, enhancing monitoring and enforcement activities, and building stronger collaborations with stakeholders in line with the state government’s sustainable development agenda.

The session was presided over by the Honourable Commissioner for Budget, Economic Planning and Statistics, Hon. Anslem Anyanwu Ezechinyere, who carefully assessed the submissions.

Also in attendance was the Honourable Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Hon. Barrister Rex Anunobi (Sokom), under whose ministry the Imo CPC operates. He pledged continued support to the Council, noting that consumer protection remains central to creating a fair marketplace and boosting confidence in the state’s economic activities.

Other agencies also participated actively in the budget defence exercise. They included the Imo Marketing Company, the Regional Cattle Market, Okigwe, and the Imo-China Investment and Trade Centre. Their joint presentations highlighted the ministry’s diverse role in driving trade, protecting consumer rights, and promoting investment opportunities across the state.

Officials of the Ministry of Budget, Economic Planning and Statistics commended the Ministry of Trade and Investment and its agencies for their clarity, preparedness, and alignment with the broader development vision of His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo State.

The annual budget defence exercise remains a critical governance mechanism for ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of public funds. With its active participation, the Imo CPC has once again demonstrated its determination to strengthen consumer protection and contribute meaningfully to Imo State’s economic growth and development.
