The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has kicked off recruitment for thousands of nationwide temporary positions, offering Kenyans an opportunity to earn Sh1,000 to Sh2,500 per day as they assist in critical electoral procedures.

The recruitment exercise comes amid the commission’s ongoing preparations for the 2027 General Election. The casual workers will also help conduct a series of by-elections that will be conducted in November.

Positions and Pay Scales

The IEBC has advertised multiple categories of positions with varying remuneration packages based on roles and responsibilities.

  • County voter educators will earn the highest daily rate of Sh2,500, followed by constituency voter educators and presiding officers, each earning Sh2,000 per day.

  • Electoral trainers will also be paid Sh2,000 per day.

  • Deputy presiding officers will receive Sh1,800, while voter registration clerks, ICT clerks, ward-based voter educators, and logistics officers will each earn Sh1,500 per day.

  • At the entry level, polling and counting clerks will earn Sh1,000 per day.

Voter registration clerks will be deployed to 57 Huduma Centres nationwide to assist in updating the voters’ register and guiding citizens through the registration process.

The IEBC has outlined strict eligibility criteria for all applicants. Candidates must be:

  • Kenyan citizens of high integrity and non-partisan.

  • Aged 19 years and above, with a minimum KCSE grade of C-.

  • Residents of the constituency or ward where they intend to serve.

  • Available for the full duration of the assignment.

Applicants must also hold degree or diploma qualifications from recognized institutions and demonstrate computer literacy.

For technical positions, a diploma in ICT, statistics, education, business administration, or related fields will be an added advantage. The commission is seeking people who can be able to demonstrate impartiality, professionalism, and commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should apply online through the IEBC Job Portal at https://jobs.iebc.or.ke.

Applicants must:

  • Create an account,

  • Provide accurate personal details,

  • Upload their academic certificates, and

  • Select the desired position and preferred location.

The commission has advised applicants to review job descriptions carefully before applying to ensure they meet all qualifications.

Application Deadline

The applicants have up to 16th October 2025 to apply. IEBC has stipulated that they would only call shortlisted candidates for an interview and that canvassing would automatically disqualify a person.

The voter registration exercise, launched on September 29, is part of the commission’s strategy to register millions of new voters and facilitate transfers for those relocating to different polling stations.

To enhance efficiency, IEBC has rolled out iris recognition technology as an additional biometric identifier, supplementing fingerprints and facial images to strengthen voter verification and minimize errors.

The commission said the recruitment represents a major short-term employment opportunity for Kenyans, enabling them to play an active role in strengthening the country’s democracy. With vacancies spread across all 47 counties, the exercise is expected to ensure adequate staffing for the ongoing voter registration drive and upcoming electoral events.

Kenyans are encouraged to submit their applications early through the IEBC job portal before the October 16 deadline.
