Former Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Alhaji Idi Farouk, has sent a strong message to Nigerian leaders regarding loyalty and accountability in government.

Speaking during a recent interview on Trust TV, Farouk weighed in on the long-standing political crisis in Rivers State between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara. He expressed worry over how internal fights between leaders and their appointees can slow down the work of government.

Farouk did not hide his feelings, stating that a leader must be firm to succeed. Many Nigerians have been watching the Rivers crisis with shock, as the cold war between the two former allies continues to heat up the state’s politics.

“If I were President and an appointee was acting against my political progress, I would sack him immediately,” Farouk said. He explained that allowing subordinates to pursue personal agendas only brings confusion and makes the administration look weak to the public.

He advised that while loyalty is important, leaders must prioritize the stability of their office to ensure they deliver on their promises to the people.
