I Need Medical Checkups After Joshua KO – Ngannou

Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou says he will undergo more medical checkups after suffering a brutal Anthony Joshua knockout in their last fight.

Joshua knocked out Ngannou in just the second round of their widely-hyped heavyweight clash last Saturday, with his promoter quickly declaring him the division’s “number one” fighter.

Joshua had his Cameroonian opponent on the canvas in the first round and twice more in the second in a brutal and brief exhibition of punching power.

Ngannou, 37, a former UFC heavyweight champion, was taking part in only his second professional boxing match, having lost a split decision to Tyson Fury in an October fight that saw him put the WBC champion on the canvas in the third round.

Ngannou appeared to still be recovering as he got back on his feet, and the Cameroonian fighter acknowledged that he still needed to undergo some tests after the brutal knockout.

He said, “We move, but regardless, I feel okay. I was quite surprised that I remembered everything from that fight night and coming back to the locker room. Basically, I was conscious right after, and since then everything has been good, although (I) still need to run some medical work just in case.

“I feel healthy, but for the longevity of the sport, we better check and find out if there’s anything that could be done to get better now. I still need more checkups.”

Joshua is now aiming for a summer fight against either Deontay Wilder, Joseph Parker, or Zhilei Zhang before a potential title fight following the undisputed heavyweight bout between Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.
