It’s been nearly a month since Wendy Williams publicly celebrated her son’s college graduation, but the media icon is making waves again after an emotional phone interview with The Breakfast Club on January 16. Speaking candidly with Charlamagne Tha God, Wendy opened up about her life under conservatorship, calling her current situation “a luxury prison.”

Living Conditions: A “Luxury Prison”

During the 37-minute interview, Wendy shared details about her living quarters, describing them as a small room with only a bed, chair, TV, and bathroom. Her niece, Alex, echoed Wendy’s sentiments, stating, “She’s in a room with one window, no proper sunlight, and it’s isolating.” Wendy also revealed she had to ask her conservator to purchase a TV using her own money.

Williams explained that her building’s strict security makes her feel trapped, with restricted elevator access and constant monitoring by nursemaids. She also mentioned being given medication daily, admitting, “I don’t even know what five out of the seven pills are for.”

“I Am Not Cognitively Impaired”

Wendy pushed back against claims made by her court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, who described her as “permanently incapacitated” in a 2024 legal filing. Wendy passionately stated, “I am not cognitively impaired.” Charlamagne supported her, emphasizing that she’s “trapped in a system” that he believes is taking advantage of her.

Isolation and Emotional Strain

Wendy revealed that she has spent the last three birthdays alone and described her situation as “emotional abuse.” According to Alex, while Wendy can call family, they cannot initiate calls to her, further isolating her. Wendy also shared that her belongings are in storage, following the sale of her apartment, and that she lacks access to devices like laptops or iPads, leaving her unable to fully connect with the outside world.

Allegations of Guardian Mismanagement

Charlamagne referenced accusations of “elder abuse” against Sabrina Morrissey, highlighting claims that Wendy’s well-being has been neglected. Loren Lorosa from The Breakfast Club added that visiting Wendy requires extensive security clearances, with her own visit denied after Sabrina failed to authorize entry.

A Broken System

Wendy described the past three years as harrowing, saying, “This system is broken… It has falsified a lot.” Despite the challenges, Wendy expressed gratitude for her niece Alex, who continues to advocate for her.

Wendy’s story sheds light on the complexities and controversies surrounding conservatorships, echoing calls for systemic reform.
