I don’t write songs for artists who can’t promote them – Kuami Eugene

Award-winning singer and songwriter Kuami Eugene, known for his versatility in contemporary highlife, recently shared insights into his songwriting process for other artistes.

Speaking in an interview, hosted by Obomengniibaa Nana Akua, Kuami explained that one of the most important factors he considers is the artist’s ability to promote the song. “I don’t want to write a song that someone will just waste. The artist has to be ready to push it,” he said.

He also admitted that fear guides his decisions. “I fear that after putting in my all, writing or producing a song, no one will pay attention to it. That’s why whenever I write for someone, they have to tick certain boxes,” he added.

Kuami emphasised that some new artists struggle to meet his standards because, while they may have money to pay for the song itself, they often don’t have funds to promote it. “If you don’t have a plan to promote the song, I can’t write it for you,” he explained.

His advice to emerging artists is straightforward: “Come prepared. If you want me to write songs for you, make sure you have the resources and strategy to give it the attention it deserves.”

Over the years, Kuami Eugene has written songs for several notable artists, including Joyce Blessing, Empress Gifty, and recently Opiesie Esther, demonstrating his influence and versatility as a songwriter and producer.
