Howard University is launching a course on Cardi B’s influence.

USA Today reports that the Historically Black College and University will introduce a three-credit course that centers on her second album calledThe Cardi B: Am I The Drama? The Art, Production, Marketing, and Cultural Impact of Hip-Hop.

The album was released on Sept. 19, 2025, and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, according to Billboard. It sold 200,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. for the week ending on Sept. 25.

“Cardi B is a household name at this point, a phenomenon. And we’re going to talk about her rise, and what makes her this amazing, global, iconic person in the music business,” said Professor Jasmine Young, per USA Today.

Young is the director of Howard University’s Warner Music/Blavatnik Music Business Center and will be teaching the course in partnership with Dr. Msia Kibona Clark, associate professor in the Department of African Studies and director of the school’s hip-hop studies minor, and Professor Pat Parks, assistant professor and area coordinator in the Department of Theatre Arts, per USA Today.

The course will place the album in the context of music, business, marketing, media, gender studies, production, and cultural theory, Young said on LinkedIn. Students will also learn about the representation of Black women and minority women in the music business.

“This course is groundbreaking because it validates hip-hop as both a scholarly discipline and a living, breathing global economy, while giving students real-time access to the strategies, storytelling, and brand architecture behind a superstar like Cardi B. Students are excited because this isn’t theory alone, it’s access, it’s proximity, it’s the REAL playbook,” Young mentioned on LinkedIn.

“It represents everything we stand for at the Warner Music/Blavatnik Center: educate, excite, and empower. Most importantly, this course will change the trajectory of hip-hop education by institutionalizing the study of contemporary artists at the highest level, proving that culture is currency and that the classroom can and should reflect the REAL pulse of the students. We are the only class of this kind in partnership with the label! Thank you Atlantic Records and Cardi B — for allowing us to TEACH your story,” she continued.

The course will officially debut in fall 2026  and will be taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:40 p.m. to 2:00 p.m, per her LinkedIn post. 24 students will be admitted into the course.
