How Many People Have Had Sex in a Public Space?

The Story

LiveJasmin has released intriguing new data detailing how we really feel about public sex

Outlining who fantasises about (and takes part in) outdoor romps by age and country, this international data shows just how outdoorsy our sex habits are, and by what means people are choosing to explore this surprisingly popular kink.

The Snapshot

In an era where taboos seem to be fading, LiveJasmin’s survey captures the spirit of the time, showing a growing acceptance of unconventional practices.

The survey’s key takeaways include:

  • More than 45% of people crave outdoor sex
  • 46% of respondents prefer seeing public sex shows

The allure of outdoor fantasies is much more widespread than many people realise, and a surprising number of people are making their fantasy a reality:

  • 51% of 18-24-year-olds would explore self-pleasure in a public space
  • 46% of 18-24-year-olds have enjoyed explicit acts in a public space
  • 42% of people aged 65+ have enjoyed explicit acts in a public space

The survey also found that US respondents are the most likely to have enjoyed sex outdoors.

The Lesson

"The outdoor masturbation fetish is really common. Users crave private sessions filmed in forests, live streams from cars, or scenarios in coffee shops and restaurants. Controlling pleasure remotely in public, combined with the thrill of the situation, drives users wild. Requests for custom videos in elevators or in front of windows are increasingly frequent and exhilarating," says LiveJasmin cam model Sophie Rhyder.

What's clear from the research is that as interest in public sex and masturbation surges, more people are looking to break free from their comfort zones — and physically stepping outside to do so.

Wendy Strgar, author of Love That Works: A Guide to Enduring Intimacy, says what's hot for most people about having sex in public is how it takes you out of the realm of comfort. "Endorphins in the brain increase due to a combo of fear of being caught and the anticipation of an orgasm," she says. "Since it's so out of the ordinary, engaging in public sex will be something you remember, regardless if you actually had an orgasm or got caught. It's the experience itself that's memorable."

AskMen does not condone illegal activity. Make sure to research whether it's OK to engage in sexual activities in a given situation before you do, as getting caught in some of these situations could lead to financial or legal repercussions.
