Hakimi To Face Trial After Rape Allegation

Paris Saint-Germain and Morocco defender Achraf Hakimi is set to face trial following an allegation of rape made against him.

A 24-year-old woman has accused the Morocco international of raping her at his residence in Paris in 2023. Hakimi has denied the allegation.

The public prosecutor’s office in Nanterre, a suburb west of the French capital, opened a preliminary investigation into the matter in March 2023.

“Today, a rape accusation is enough to justify a trial,” Hakimi posted on X, external.

“This is as unjust to the innocent as it is to the genuine victims. I calmly await this trial, which will allow the truth to come out publicly.”

No date has been set for the trial.

Paris Saint-Germain will host Monaco on Wednesday in the second leg of their Champions League knockout round play-off tie.

Hakimi was included in PSG’s initial squad list released last Tuesday.

The 27-year-old defender, born in Spain but an international representative for Morocco, has made 194 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain and played a key role in the club’s Champions League and Ligue 1 triumphs last season.

His performances were recognised at the Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in Paris on Monday, where he was named in the FIFPRO Men’s World Team of the Year.

Hakimi was also instrumental in Morocco’s historic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, becoming the first African nation to reach that stage of the tournament.
